Applications will be developed using minimal traditional coding, fast-tracking innovation and reducing costs.
Low code development is defined by the use of visual tools, including drag and drop, automated workflows and cloud deployment rather than full length computer code. This makes software creation accessible to both novice and expert developers and expedites the journey from concept to finished product.
Announced today, Monday 3rd March, the UK Government has confirmed a new low code community will be established to support its overhaul and modernisation of the public sector.
According to an updated version of the Government Service Manual, the new scheme is one of 25 communities of practice in the digital and data space. Others include AI, data and AI ethics, digital buying, cloud and web operations.
The community will be open to staff across multiple departments and agencies. The decision comes at a time when low code is becoming increasingly used across the world, with the public sector in particular looking to this comparatively cheap and highly efficient solution to developing vital new technologies.
‘The low code community exists to foster a collaborative environment where members can share knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions related to low code applications development and platforms,’ the UK Government Service Manual states.
‘Through meetings, workshops, and knowledge sharing sessions, this community focuses on building a supportive network that encourages continuous learning, professional growth, and the effective use of low code platforms to solve real world challenges,’ it continues.
