Brent Council has launched a digital skills hub to support the courses and training offered by its Brent Start initiative.
The ‘first of its kind’ hub offers courses to both members of the public and employers looking to strengthen the digital skills of their workforce. The Brent Start initiative also provides support for job seekers, offering training on topics such as how to find a job online and how to create a professional CV.
Cllr Eleanor Southwood, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Economy & Citizen Experience at Brent Council said: ‘This centre is the first of its kind in Brent and will play an important role in bridging the digital skills gap in our borough.
‘Having digital skills opens up a world of opportunities. From accessing important services and staying in touch with loved ones to applying for the jobs of the future. We want to ensure nobody is left behind – so if you or your family want to learn the basics or boost your digital skills, please do stop by to see our friendly team.’
Located in Wembley Central, the new digital skills hub also offers ‘a range of digital skills courses from the very basics such as keyboard and mouse skills to word processing, spreadsheets and presentations, right through to advanced IT User.’
Brent Digital Skills Hub joins the existing sites used by Brent Start to provide training including at the Brent Indian Association and the Hillside Adult and Community Learning Centre. Courses offered by the adult learning provider also include maths, English and language lessons as well as courses for some adults with learning disabilities.
A Green Skills Centre, delivered by the College of Northwest London, has also recently opened in Brent, forming part of the council’s commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030.
The borough of Brent is the fifth largest in London and covers about 340,000 residents, over half of whom are born outside of the UK, the highest proportion of residents in England and Wales.
