Transforming schools’ data management in Wrexham through MIS

Council rolls out Bromcom management information system (MIS) to 71 schools to transform data management and comms.  

Wrexham County Borough Council is overhauling the way schools in the region manage data and communications. The existing system, used across almost all of Wales, has been in place for more than 30 years.

To update these antiquated systems, the council has turned to Bromcom, a company with decades of experience in supplying MIS hardware platforms and network services to local authority schools in the UK. It currently serves more than 4,000 schools and 2m users across the UK and Europe. In 2011, it was the first company in the UK to launch a cloud-based MIS solution. 

Bromcom MIS provides a suite of administration, analysis and communication tools in a single, intuitive interface. This includes a parent portal, clubs/trips management and apps for  students, parents and teachers. In a first for Welsh MIS, parents and teachers will be able to use the app and portals in both English and Welsh – functionality that the council underlined as important to its residents. 

The 71 schools in the Wrexham region will migrate to the Bromcom MIS system by spring term 2025. Five schools are already involved in a small-scale pilot project and will go live with the new MIS by the end of September. With lessons learned from the pilot, the local authority’s remaining 66 schools are expected to begin implementation in the autumn term. 

Deployment across Wrexham follows news earlier this year that Bromcom won a contract to supply MIS to 1,100 schools in Northern Ireland.  

Richard Hatwood, Headteacher at Ysgol yr Holl Saint – All Saints’ School (one of the council’s pilot schools), says: ‘With Bromcom, we’ll be able to do more with less work.
