Social care in Sunderland to gain from new software launch

Reablement, planned care and telecare will benefit following the rollout of new technology. 

A partnership between Sunderland Care & Support (SCAS), Boldyn Networks, and Totalmobile will see a complete overhaul of specialised provision in the North East England city. 

Launching later this month, the upgrade is designed to make it easier for the public to access vital services, improving efficiency. It is also expected to provide a better work-life balance for more than 500 caregivers through the reduction of administrative tasks and more streamlined processes, and optimised workflows. In turn, this will allow professionals to focus on patients and point-of-delivery.

Recent figures published in the Oxford Academic showed that 16.6% of social workers were experiencing mild depressive symptoms and due to work conditions and workload, with 22.3% reporting low mental wellbeing. It is hoped that the new software could help alleviate some of the pressure experienced by public sector professionals in the Sunderland area. 

However, a report published by the Public Accounts Committee raised serious concerns with the rollout of new technologies in local and national government departments, alongside other agencies funded by the taxpayer. A skills shortage had left public sector buyers in a weakened position and far too reliant on suppliers. In turn, this leaves organisations vulnerable to price increases and delays.
