The best in innovative tech has recognised at this year’s CiTTi Awards, National Recycling Awards and Verint Inspire Awards
It’s awards season, and at various ceremonies, the best and brightest stars of tech are vying with one another for awards. That gives us the opportunity to highlight some brilliant work…

Win for autonomous vehicles
We reported in July on the self-driving shuttle bus project Solihull & Coventry Automated Links Evolution (SCALE). Last week, SCALE won a City Transport & Traffic Innovation (CiTiI) Award, in the hotly contested category Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV).
SCALE aims to demonstrate a real-world, Level 4 autonomous shuttle service in a high-demand traffic corridor, serving both the NEC and forthcoming HS2 Interchange station. Work began in July on SCALE 2, extending the route to connect Birmingham International rail station with Birmingham Business Park, which hosts up to 10,000 visitors a day.
The CiTTi award recognised SCALE’s ground-breaking advancements in CAV technologies which, by improving integration, safety and public acceptance, look set to transform urban mobility.
Win for recyclable tech
We’ve also reported a lot on the problems of electronic waste – which is expensive to process, difficult to disassemble and often ends up in landfill. The National Recyling Awards this year recognised the efforts of Kettining-based tech company In2tec in trying the rethink the whole model of sustainable tech.
In2tec won the award for Recycled Product of the Year for its ReUSE and ReCYCLE technologies. ReUSE is basically a series of materials, processes and design principles for manufacturing modulr circuit boards that can be easily replaced, repaired and reused. ReCYCLE is an ultra-low energy process for unzipping circuit boards to the original bill of materials (BoM).
Accepting the award, Emma Armstrong, Sustainable Electronics Ambassador at In2tec, said: ‘This is an exciting moment for In2tec. ReUSE and ReCYCLE demonstrate that electronics can be designed for continual recovery and reuse, benefitting both industry and the planet. We’re proud to be at the forefront of this transformation.’
Win for ‘digital first’ model in South Staffordshire
Meanwhile, South Staffordshire Council won silver at the Verint Inspire Awards, in recognition of its efforts transform how residents interact with council services. Some 86% of residents now engage with the council through digital channels rather than other methods such as by phone or in person.
The council was one of 108 entries from all across the country, and was shortlisted alongside big-name companies such as Currys and Philips.
A spokesperson for the council says: ‘This recognition is a testament to the hard work and creativity of teams across the council, all working together to deliver modern, efficient services for our community. We’re proud to be leading the way in digital transformation and will continue to keep residents at the centre of everything we do.’
