WM5G is leading on a rollout of cutting edge technology for the UK’s largest combined authority.
This brings total funding from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to to £5million. The additional money will help deliver high tech services to more users in the urban area.
Within social care settings, Technology-Enabled Care [TEC] is already helping 350 people across the are through optimised carer visits, proactive monitoring and predictive analytics.
This has led to a visible decline in hospital admissions. Extended finance will allow this to be scaled regionally and nationally, and cementing ties to NHS Integrated Care Boards [ICBs]. A comprehensive business case, new procurement framework and programmes aimed at transforming organisational cultures will also be developed.
Manufacturers have also been enjoying advantages from the scheme. Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant, for example, has deployed a private 5G sensor and data system to improve efficiency, automation and connectivity. Again, this forms a testbed for wider rollout across the country.
‘This region has led in innovation for more than two centuries. Now the government is looking to us for cutting-edge solutions to real-world challenges that can improve lives and fire up our economy,’ said Mayor Richard Parker.
‘Our next-generation 5G-powered technologies are already helping hundreds of local people live more independently, driving productivity, and helping businesses grow,’ he continued. ‘We have the people, ideas, and tech to modernise public services, attract major investment, and create well-paid jobs. That’s my plan to deliver a new era of prosperity for all our communities.’
