Gigabit broadband for Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire – first phase completed

Smart tech and digital provider Connexin completes first stage of its Project Gigabit contract to provide lightning-fast broadband across the region.

An ambitious initiative to provide faster internet connections to hard-to-reach rural areas has taken a significant step forward.

In January, Connexin won a £58m government contract to rollout reliable, hyperfast broadband to more than 34,000 rural homes across Nottingham and West Lincolnshire, benefiting homes and businesses alike.

Working closely with central government, Nottinghamshire County Council and Lincolnshire County Council, the first phase of the project has been delivered on time and under budget. The next phase, the build stage, will now commence, with the first premises connected by early 2025. Full fibre to the premise (FTTP) broadband infrastructure will be rolled out to rural properties in areas such as Annesley, Kirkby in Ashfield, Market Rasen, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Wragby.

More than a million homes, businesses and public buildings can already access lightning-fast, gigabit-capable broadband thanks to government investment in this kind of infrastructure in what are otherwise hard-to-reach locations.

The UK-based Connexin offers industry-leading provision in broadband, smart solutions and digital training.  The project being undertaken across Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire also involves partnership with global investment and assets management experts PATRIZIA.

Furqan Alamgir, CEO at Connexin, says: ‘As a company driven to improve lives through digital innovation, Connexin is delighted to be working with BDUK on bringing Ultrafast Connectivity to these hard-to-reach areas. This fibre network will not only offer significantly faster broadband speeds but will serve as a backbone for many other services to truly digitally enable rural Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire.’

Phoebe Smith, Managing Director at PATRIZIA, adds: ‘We’re proud of Connexin’s approach to this partnership and pleased to be moving the project into the next stage. We are excited to be partnering with Connexin and the UK government to provide much needed access to faster and more reliable broadband services to the rural communities in Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire.’
